Your price is a little high Churchy:-
http://www.bikesales.com.au
There's a '95 model on that site for $6,000 ono and another '95 for $6,500 registered on the road and neither of them have a dent in the tank.
Flog the spare engine and use the money to fix the tank then drop your price by a couple of grand ($6,500 to $7,000), maybe you'll get some takers then. |

I have seen what there going for, and they are going down all the time. Its a buyers market.
But a lot of vintage bikes also are priced too high. There asking IMO a couple of grand over the value as well. And not just my opinion as there just not getting there reserve or asking price.
So as I am looking at a swap only and not a sale. I am using a retail figure.
But I may adjust it a little
The tank I dont want to discuss Still cant believe I dropped it! _________________ www.ratscafe.org

No point beating yourself up about it, spilt milk and all that. The point is the tank problem would put people off so it needs to be fixed. The spare engine should not even be mentioned, leave it as a bonus surprise when you do get a looker or, as I said, sell it to finance the tank repair.
If I was selling that bike I would not have mentioned the whole engine change story in the AD - it can put people off. You can be honest and tell any potential buyer when they are looking at the bike - it will have less negative impact that way.
So, I would pull that AD, fix the tank, put up a new AD without the engine change story and drop the price by at least a grand. I also think that looking for a swap limits your possibilities, just sell the bike and look to buy a classic bike elsewhere with the funds.
Just my 2 cents mate, it's your bike you proceed as you see fit. |

Everything you say makes sense and I will do that, and thanks for comments. But the engine will never be sold separate. Least not by me, as time has told me that matching numbers are very important to some. But I will sell off some of the hardware.
And my main problem with selling bike is that I am still actually enjoying having it
It sits in Sunroom, so I see it every day and play with it very regular and I cant say I ride it, as its not registered
But I am enjoying it.
If( and ads on gumtree are free), a suitable swap happens. Well Bonus.
But Icant say that selling it is a priority at the moment. But I will reword ad.
And lets face it, price there going for at the moment is pretty poor, so why sell it?
Re candy red. Was amazed how quick that sprint sold for BTW ! But hey $3,700 was bloody cheap _________________ www.ratscafe.org

Admit it Churchy - you don't really want to sell it do you.
I don't think there's any such thing as matching numbers with Hinckleys, engine number & frame number are different. |
