At $13,500 it's not good buying IMHO.
Too many things incorrect or changed about. That's the kind of money nice original ones go for. Also with our $ the way it is we can expect a lot more coming in from the States. |

I think that will be a buy it now price. Those buy it now prices tend to be the top that the seller expects. You never know if the reserve is in that area or reasonably low. One thing that I've watched friends do very successfully is have all ready at the last, and I mean last minute for a snipe. Personally I'd stop bidding at 6, I may be a little out of touch with pricing but that isn't a 69 Bonneville. It may have a 69 Bon engine number but that's where the show stops. Mixed up mongrels like that aren't hard to find or hard to build up for that matter.
I just had a short look at what's available on bikepoint, check this for an ASKING price of $13,900.

well that is a 13 plus for sure. What a beast.
And yes, i think u are behind the times with a 6 for that bitsa 69. And I am probably too low at 8. Hopeing not, but there is some merit in what u say re dollar. so if dont ge, then was not meant to be, and hope an influx from US happens.
Do love the Bitsa tho, and know lots better but already feel its mine _________________ www.ratscafe.org

I sold this for $7k 12 mths ago. If I held out for top money $9k would have stopped it stone cold.
What people ask and the eventual selling prices can be a long way from each other.

A Mate of mine just sold an exceptionally clean and original '71 OIF Bonnie for 8K up here in Mackay. I had a good look at it before he sold it and the only sign I could find of an oil leak was a very slight weep from one of the push rod tubes and the bike was a first kick starter virtually every time I saw him start it. It ran like clockwork on all of the club runs I saw it on as well. |

In the sober state of morning. I wont be making any bid of 8K. As I really cant afford it. I may put a 6 on just to see what happens, as sure can scrape that up if succesfull. But I think u are right re the reserve probably being set way too high Kev

Hey Churchy I really like that bike so can you get pissed again and have a bid on it for me? Just log onto ebay using your user name - it'll be sweet.
Thanks mate!

I've been lookng at a few Trident's for a resto (maybe Cafe Racer?) and to have an older classic.
What should I look out for? How readily are parts available for them? _________________ Are you suffering from a chemical imbalance or is it just an attitude problem? |

Last part first, parts are very easy to get. Many good suppliers in Australia and NZ. If you are familiar with prices for new bike parts you'll be shocked as to how reasonable classic parts cost.
"What should I look out for?"
If it's going to be a Cafe Racer, I'd say the thing to sort out in the purchase are two good wheels (wheels can be one of the costliest things), and a sound motor sitting in a straight frame. The rest becomes custom so isn't important.
If you are after an original bike to show, spend top money and buy one that others have put too much money into, don't spend the next 5 years at swap meetings chasing the correct mudguard, that only leads to frustration.
Personally I'd go for a twin not a triple, those Tridents are very heavy, they go well with revs but the twins are much nicer bikes to ride. |

Thanks for the advice. I was thinking a Tiger might be a better option but people are asking a lot of $$s and some of them look like bitzas. I wouldn't cafe it if it was original, that was just to see if there was some interest.
Mrs Grinder has an 82 Ducati Pantah 500 in the shed that I need to get going so I might muck around with that for a while and think about it. _________________ Are you suffering from a chemical imbalance or is it just an attitude problem? |
