In simple terms, a stop box is a box in front of where cars stop at intersection where bikes can move to before the lights change.

The new Minister for Roads has agreed to a trail of filtering and stop boxes at 5 intersections around Sydney. The MCC is to nominate the intersections to be trialled. The trial will be monitored 24 hours a day, be set up on one side of each intersection only, and the lanes must be wide enough to enable filtering to take place safely and without any chance of bumping vehicles or their side mirrors.
Please send your nominations to me (Chris Burns - see address below) and I will compile a list for the Committee to choose the 5 intersections to be submitted to the Minister for the trial.

Main criteria are;
? Main road into or out of the city.
? Lanes wide enough to support lane filtering.
? Any stop boxes installed would have the current stop line pulled back to allow room for the motorcycle stop box and the pedestrian crossing similar to those proposed for bicycles.
? .
We would appreciate your responses fairly quickly as we have to respond to the Minister shortly.
Regards

Christopher Burns (CJ)

I would suggest 1 on Victoria Road at Intersection of either Marsden or Shaftbury. Or even both. All bikes do it there anyway and the road is certainly wide enough. Maybe even Victoria Rd / Spurway St Intersection?

Width on any City road dont seem to stop me tho. Smile
It could cause problems if slow bikes and cycles decide to use it tho, as will mean cars are held up? Has this been considered?

Almost fell off my seat laughing, good one!
You aren't going to forgive me for that sidecar comment are you?
Hey that's the way it should be.

OK I'll re state my earlier post.
Probably because I don't live in a big city but I don't, that is never filter, not even when I had a normal bike. These days my wide load escort won't allow filtering.
Are you happy now? Laughing
