Today is the anniversary of the first ever recording of a voice .
December 6th, 1877 - Thomas Edison invented the phonograph and made the first sound recording.

His famous words were "Mary Had a Little Lamb"

Like the second stanza of the Australian National Anthem,
Advance Australia Fair, not many know the second part of what
Mr Edison spoke.......
"Mary had a Little Lamb, She Couldn't stop it Buntin' ".... it's unclear on the recording what followed.
But of course - as these things go - they found someoone had already done it before him...

Soon after, some producers in Harlem dubbed it...

Followed, luckily by a recording by a Mr S. Vaughan ........

A real fart smeller was old Thomas -
"... Thomas Edison was more responsible than any one else
for creating the modern world .... No one did more to shape
the physical/cultural makeup of present day civilization....
Accordingly, he was the most influential figure of the millennium...."

Should we run a poll of peoples choice for best version.
My vote goes to Stevie Ray.
Interesting bit of research there Dave. Good stuff. |
