Have used them.
Most of my stuff was good but not everything went perfect.
Bought a used radiator and cap (they sell them separately which seems strange:? ) to fix up the bike that got pinched.

Some time between the photo's being taken for the listing and the dispatch Dept the rad got dropped on the filler neck and turned into an oval distorted shape with a crack in the side of the neck.

Pinwall wouldn't even reply to my questions about the problem so it had to be taken to a Paypal dispute.

Wasn't going to be a problem with Paypal to organise a refund of the money but I had to send it back and pay the return postage which ended up being $5 short of the refund cost.
Concidering I'd paid for the original postage as well I was going to be about $140 out of pocket to get a $100 refund.

In the end I wasn't going to win so I just let it go.
Will try and fix it one day and re-sell it on Ebay and a used item and cover my costs that way.

I know a few fella's here have bought stuff without any hassles, so in general I think they're pretty honest.

Churchy got a good deal on his Tbird engine from them I think, but he'll fill you in on that.

Cheers Cobba much appreciated - Churchy only lives up the street from me and I've heard the ins and outs of the bird motor and he seemed pretty happy with them so I think I'll grab the few bits I've got on my watch list, another tensioner, guides, thruxton dash plus a few other odds n sods.

Actually T/bird motor was not from Pinwalls. Lawrie (aussieT100} is the guy who has used Pinwalls on numerous occasions.

I saw one I liked on Pinwalls, but a cheaper lower KM one came up. Here is link http://musicswap.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=212

Yep, Pinwall has many thousands of my hard earned. Generally they are pretty good but I have had just a few problems with the many shipments I've had from them. High freight costs would be my first complaint with costs not being consistent from one similar sized shipment to the next and twice now I've had disputes with them over this factor and twice I've won out in the end but you do have to be persistent.

Feedback is your biggest advantage, I have e-mailed them, after receiving a shipment and noting that the actual shipping cost for the size and weight of the shipment was nearly half what I was charged (you can check USPS freight costs on-line), and asked them why I shouldn't leave them negative feedback based on their overcharging on freight. I received no reply but got a US$100 refund to my PayPal account very promptly.

Packaging was another problem with some orders and I have received a couple of items that suffered minor damage during shipment and one shipment where the contents were spilling out of the packaging on arrival. Thankfully the damage was only cosmetic and all of the parts were present in the shipment that had busted open. Packaging does seem to have improved recently.

Mostly their parts are exactly as described and reasonably priced but you do have to factor in the high cost of freight, particularly on bulky items, and be prepared to argue the point if they slug you on freight. In particular, watch out for unreasonable freight costs on any item you win in an open auction where there was little to no competition in the bidding and you get the item for a bargain price - they will try to make up for it by overcharging, sometimes massively, on freight.

Make their money on postage - avoid if you can.

How heavy is a Thruxton dash less gauges? I'm pretty sure it wouldn't cost the near 67 bux they wanted to post it.

Yep the battles aleady begun, shipping has come done from whatever the hell it was to less than 20 a piece combined which I have no problems with as the parts are usually dearer than the total.

Cheers to all for the comments

Pinwall and freight costs

Aussie_T100 wrote:
Same story with almost every purchase I've made from Pinwall's eBay store but here's the latest installment. I purchased a set of Bonneville 865 barrels & pistons "Buy it Now" for US$250 and promptly received the following invoice through eBay:-

I considered the freight charge of over US$140 to be excessive based on some calculations and a visit to the USPS site so I e-mailed Pinwall complaining that a true and reasonable freight charge would be closer to US$100. Here is their response:-

Note the statement that the parcel weighs 19 pounds. A set of 865 barrels & pistons weighs exactly half that so they are saying that the packing materials weigh 9 1/2 pounds by themselves which is ridiculous so I e-mailed them again stating that I considered the 19 pounds figure not to be "factual" and that a realistic total shipping weight would be closer to 12 to 14 pounds at the very most. I also specifically asked if it was possible to ship by a cheaper method. Here is their response:-

Must be pretty heavy foam huh? I responded stating that I appreciated their careful packaging but still doubted the total weight of the package being 19 pounds. I asked if it was possible to keep the shipping weight down and if it was possible to ship via a cheaper method. Here is their response:-

Finally I get more than a four word reply and they reveal that they are only guessing the shipping weight but they make no offer to accurately cost the freight only to refund me if their guess is inaccurate and I am "grossly overcharged". The shipping method they are using is the cheapest they can offer. Here is my reply:-

I then paid for the item.

Today the shipment arrived, here is a copy of the packing slip:-

Note that the shipping method is USPS Priority Mail International and that the shipping weight is 12 pounds. So I measured and weighed the package myself:-

The package measured 16" x 10" x 10 1/2" and weighed just under 12 pounds so off to the USPS site I go and do a freight calculation. Here's the result:-

US$75 to US$80 depending on payment method. I do suspect that Pinwall would get a better rate than that considering the amount of overseas shipping they do but let's call it US$75.

Now they also have material costs for packaging:-

A medium sized light weight cardboard carton, some expanding foam and a bit of plastic sheeting, probably no more than US$5 in total when purchased in bulk which I assume they do.

Now they also have labour costs to actually package the item and administration costs to fill out the paperwork etc. Let's say half an hour and allow US$20 to cover that.

So the total cost of the shipment is around US$100 exactly as I stated in my first e-mail to them. Now it's up to me to go back and argue the point with them to try and get a refund for the difference.

Not the way to do business I would think and to deliberately lie about the weight of the package in order to justify the high shipping price is inexcusable. To make things worse this is not the first time I've had to go through this process.

Buyer beware.

Rekon best to keep all together as good info. have not bort from them but have looked a few times . Comments so far put me off

To date I have received no response at all to my e-mail requesting a refund of US$40 due to overcharging on freight and as a result I have left negative feedback for this transaction citing a 50% overcharge on freight, the false info on the parcel weight and the ignorance of communications as the reasons.

I very much doubt that I will ever deal with this company again.
