Fellow riders,
The email below and the opportunity is incredibly important so I have sent it out on the Newsletter list to one and all.
This is our one opportunity as riders to have a say in the future transport plan for NSW via the Transport Master Plan regional sessions.
Transport for NSW and the new NSW Government are taking the input of the public very seriously and want all the information they can get to formulate the future of transport in NSW.
Once again, this is your opportunity to have a say on all the issues we have as riders;
Parking on footpaths to promote motorcycles and reduce congestion
Stop the practice of Jetpatching and repair the roads in a manner that lasts and does not create a hazards to road users.
Removal of wire Rope Barriers and replacement with a more motorcycle friendly alternative
Stop or improve the practice of injection repairs to cracks in the road
Improved road Maintenance and follow up inspections by the RMS.
Ensuring that road maintenance contractors are adequately trained and up to date with current standards.
Reduction/removal of tolls and/or a tag that works to promote motorcycles and reduce congestion.
Reduction of congestion in the major centres by the promotion of motorcycles.
Implement a strategy similar to Sydney Citys Motorcycle strategy in your local area or across NSW
Inform local councils of how and where to put road furniture in a safe manner and not impede vision of the road.
Driver training
You name it, it is all OK to go on the table for discussion or into an email to transport.
See below for further details.

good posting Stan
Our local council have a way of repairing roads down here that's downright dangerous for bike riders
they spray gravel over the road , let the cars drive over it for a week to bed it in , put up a 40 kmh sign and hope for the best , after a week they will brush it off with a machine sometimes
Ive ridden on these wet tar gravelly roadworks heaps of times , every time it bloody dangerous as the cars only bed in the outsides of the lane , all the lose crap is in the middle
Pity they dont consider bikers more _________________ 2005 Triumph rocket 3 DEEV8

Nice post.\
Would like to add Lane Filtering and designated line between where cars stop (At traffic lights) and pedestrians walk as "holding" areas at the front of traffic.
In my opinion this will allow for lrss traffic congestion and is much safer for bikes than lane changing at speed.
I am going to shoot an email off, might even give the local member a nudge.
Regards

In the most respectful and friendly way I disagree. I think police should stamp down on lane filtering, it's dangerous, riders scratch cars and get cranky if cars don't leave enough room for them to pass. I find the closer to the city I get the worse the attitude of the riders seems to be.
I say sit back, chill out and go with the flow. |

Yep we will have to disagree on that one,
works perfectly well overseas and if there's not room well you just dont try.
I have been riding for 40 years and never touched a car let alone scratched one. (Although two have hit me, with more than a scratch the result)
You see guys lane swapping and using honda highway and breakdown lanes at speeds up to 120 kph ++ that to me is dangerous.
I am only talking about filtering when cars are stationary, like at lights etc. and then into a dedicated filtering or holding area at front of traffic.
Like all riding skills it may take practice and some common sense but with education of drivers and riders is very safe.
There are numnuts on the road who will try and block you, agreed but they are a minority and if well marked I think everyone will get the drift.
Also filtering would not be mandatory so if you didnt want to you wouldnt have to.
I personally think that riding in traffic is dangerous and if there was a simple effective way to get ahead of the cagers I would personally take it. I got collected from behind at 30 - 40 kph, in traffic, when stationary, guy reckons didnt see me when he was changing lanes, I would rather be up front and with a clear wind in my sails.
Otherwise, not a shot at you if comes accross like that, thats not my intent, I just hate sitting in traffic in the sun and/or rain when I could be at my destination/home/or just riding away from the ratrace we call sydney.

Gold, like you I've also got well over 40 years of daily riding behind me and have also been hit from behind. Those blokes that race through the traffic don't do anything for the good name of motorcycling. The problem is those sitting in slow moving cars can't see the difference between safe filtering and dangerous riding.
You may call me a defeatist but after watching these motorcycle lobby people since the late 60's I've come to the conclusion that it's all hot air and nothing will ever change.
I'm very pro police, sure you get the occasional prick but hell look at the skum that they deal with every day. If the law is, keep within your lane, I'm happy to see police inforcing it.
No agro either way on this one just two people with different views.
You ride safe also. |

I hear you otherwise,
World would be very boring if we all thought the same.
I wish Aussie drivers were more like europe when it comes to bikes, would be a nice change.

I don't lane split/filter, seen too many incidents involving this practice over the years, both accidents and altercations.
Bike riders have enough to deal with as it is without adding to the load. _________________ Cheers,
