Bathurst Job Description

How about doing your bit to keep the MCC financial?

The MCC’s main source of income is from the contract it has to do the camping ground marshalling for the Bathurst V8 races in October. (in 2011 it is the 8th and 9th)

You can assist by volunteering to help with on the contract:-

Camping Ground Marshalling (9 days, 1st to 9th October in 2011)

Once the camping grounds at the top of the mountain open 9 days before the races the MCC’s contract is to escort campers to their campsites. This is a 24 hour operation over 3 shifts. Quad bikes* are used as the escort vehicles. A sense of humour and a degree of tolerance is required at times to deal with the sometimes less than polite or sober campers. It can be an eye opener at times to see what “car enthusiast” get up to when they are more intend on causing mayhem than watching the races.

Not everyone needs to ride a quad*, helpers are needed at the entrances and boom gate to answer questions and direct traffic.

You camp in the compound at the top of the mountain that is specially set aside for the MCC, a meal room and cooking facilities are provided and you are paid a meal allowance but you need to bring your own camping gear, caravan or tent.

The most hectic days are the 4 days Tuesday to Friday, so even if you can’t stay for the full 9 days, assistance on these days would be most appreciated.

*(Quads have traditionally been used but we may be switching to cars)
