Was not sure where to post this.
But heard a rumour that there will be changes to Statutoty write-offs and that they can be re built and registered for road use.
Any chance of raising this at the next meeting ? _________________ www.ratscafe.org

Thanks for that Cam
Looks like it is still the same and only the owner can apply
Quote: | All NSW light vehicles written-off from 31 January 2011 are classified as 'statutory write-offs' on the WOVR and these vehicles can only be used for scrap or for parts. Limited exemptions apply for eligible persons and eligible vehicles to apply to the Roads and Maritime Services for an Authorisation to Repair this class of written-off vehicle
The laws apply to all NSW light vehicles including trailers, caravans and motorcycles.
Written-off vehicles that have permission to be repaired must satisfy Roads and Maritime Services inspection requirements before they can be re-registered.
For further information about the reforms, see Written-off Vehicle reforms – frequently asked questions.
Every written-off vehicle that is eligible for re-registration needs a Certificate of Compliance from a NSW Fair Trading licensed repairer before it can be re-registered. Vehicles that were written-off on or after 31 January 2011 also need an Authorisation to Repair from Roads and Maritime Services. Vehicles must also meet Roads and Maritime Services inspection requirements |
Quote: | Will any vehicles written-off from 1
February 2011 be able to be registered?
Limited applications to repair and register will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
The registered vehicle operator (at the time the vehicle was assessed as a write-off) can apply to the RTA for Authorisation to Repair if the vehicle is:
• in an exempt vehicle category
• able to be repaired to legislated vehicle safety standards. |
I was hoping that if i bought a stat write-of from a wrecker, then i could apply. _________________ www.ratscafe.org

Stan is this the sort of question that can be raised?
I was speaking to Bart at Liverpool Bike Wreckers and He is sure that this is to be amended, that a new owner (after being listed on WOVR) can apply to have bike re registered. But certainly no info to this on RTA site ?
Am interested to know as have seen a bike that I would like to mod but is already listed with WOVR _________________ http://www.ratscafe.org

or a fee, levy, charge or penalty!
I did find this though Churchy, seems to say you can buy a vehicle from another state that has been registered on a written off vehicle register prior to Jan 20111 and then have it repaired and inspected by a DFT licensed repairer.
"What if I buy a repairable write-off from another state?
If a repairable written-off vehicle is recorded on an interstate Written-Off Vehicle Register on or before 31 January 2011, the vehicle can be repaired and registered in NSW if the repairs are certified by a NSW Fair Trading licensed repairer and the vehicle passes two inspections.
If the vehicle is recorded as a repairable written-off vehicle on an interstate Written-Off Vehicle Register after 31 January 2011, it must be repaired and registered in another State or Territory before applying for registration in NSW."

How weird is that Cam !
Can buy but have to fix in another State
This whole thing needs to be looked at and at the very least made sensible
Thanks Stan that your following up on this. _________________ www.ratscafe.org

Only if it was registered after the 31st of Jan 2011. So if you find one that is a bit older it might be okay.
Personally I don't know how much damage it takes to be a write off, probably not much I guess these days.... _________________ 2010 Bonneville A1 - black with black bits on it!

Most write offs are done as cost to repair is higher than insured sum
Which as youu say is not much these days
Bike i am looking at has no frame damage and only cosmetic damage to rest of it. But is on register after jan 11 and is in another state. _________________ www.ratscafe.org

I was told that sometimes if your insurance policy is in the first half or early into it they will right of the bike rather than repair it as they take a chance of having to repair it again if you prang it before the policy runs out
If your policy is close to the end they would rather repair it _________________

Not the answer you wanted David - but I did get an answer!
Yes there has been a major change to the NSW Written Off Vehicle Register (WOVR). I work in the motor insurance industry and have been heavily involved in the last round of changes (on behalf of insurers). Basically these days if a vehicle is listed on the WOVR DON’T go near it unless it is for parts. You will not get it re registered. This was engineered by the NSW Police, MTA and more importantly the RTA.
The exemptions are made to be extremely difficult and were basically there for the enthusiast cars and specials, not the everyday vehicles.
Hope this helps. If you are not sure take a look at the actual rules. http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/myrta/wovr.html
Good luck. |
