This morning at 03:45 Ray Gilbert passed away quietly in Westmead Hospital after being diagnosed with cancer last week.

Ray was a long serving delegate of the Sidecar Owners Club to the MCCofNSW and served as the Treasurer of the MCCofNSW for more years than anyone can remember.
He and his wife Chrissie Gilbert (MCC Sec) were the mainstays for more than 18 years in carrying out the campground works at Bathurst and were considered part of the scenery at Bathurst car races.

Ray’s lifelong passion for motorcycles led him to the MCCofNSW and his years of work as a committee member have ensured the MCCofNSW has been as strong as it is in its service to the riders of NSW.

The service will be held 2pm at Pinegrove Nth Chapel in Minchinbury.

Ray will be greatly missed.

(From Chris Burns - Chairman MCC NSW)

Very bittersweet.
Good that he did not suffer a protracted dance with the devil that is Cancer.
Sad - anybody who hangs around with Side-Car fanatics deserves a long retirement filled with overly embellished memories - and bullshit.
They are a unique breed.
Vale.

Yes Churchy - don't know the details but it must have been quite advanced.

It came as a shock because I used to chat (and in my smoking days have a smoke) with them every MCC meeting I went too.

Both Ray and Chrissy are an institution - and now half of it is gone.

So sad to hear of Ray's passing, I also never knew him personally, but knew about him from BA meetings & our MCC delegate, he will be very missed. A blessing for Ray & his family that he didn't suffer for too long.
RIP Ray Sad Sad

Bloody hell that was quick. Was chatting to the old MCC president today about it and it caught everyone by surprise I think. Ray had been there as long as I have been involved with the MCC and was an absolutely lovely lovely bloke. Poor Chrissie Sad

RIP mate.
